WarZone / Mobilian

Q. Clarification on 'weaknesses' of the Mobilian forces.
A. The FTL technology of the Mobilians is still quite limited, they can only stay in Sub-Space for short periods at a time therefore, with their current level of technology, it would take them considerably longer to travel from one part of the galaxy to another than it would for the major races in the WarZone. However, in sub-light speed travel they would be comparable to most others.
Their shield technology is only rudimentary and is limited to only protecting one area at a time. Therefore they are not able to withstand as much firepower as many of the major WarZone races. However, to help compensate for this most of their ships are very maneuverable and good at dodging enemy fire. They also rely highly on their fighters to help defend the capital ships.
Their Capital ships are smaller than those of many of the other players' races, and therefore not carrying as much firepower. This is due both to their newness to space travel and to their small stature.
Compared to the Galactic power players they also have the weakness of being fairly new to space travel, especially FTL, and therefore have mush small fleets than the big boys.
Q. Clarification on the 'wave motion' tech.
A. Wave Motion is the technology used to power both the main engines and the main guns of many Mobilian Space Corps ships. It is the only technology they currently have that allows for FTL traveling. The Wave Motion engines and Wave Motion guns are always interconnected, that is they form one continuous connected apparatus throughout the length of the ship. It is possible to have a Wave Motion engine without have the Wave Motion gun but it is not possible to have the Wave Motion gun without the Wave Motion engine.
The Wave Motion gun is a very powerful single shot gun that draws on all of the ships power. According to one commentary I read the main gun on the ship at the end of the B5 series is very much like the Wave Motion gun.
The Mobilians have two types of Wave Motion guns. The "Full Scale" Wave Motion gun and the "Minor" wave motion gun. A "Full Scale" wave motion gun normally has its firing opening located in the middle of the front of the ship, as it needs to be in line with the Wave Motion engines. A "Minor" Wave Motion gun can be located anywhere on a ship where it can be in line with an adequate reverse release. In the case of the experimental Class E Space Cruiser (such as the MSC Experimentum) the two "Minor" Wave Motion guns are located one on each side of the ship.
The blast of a "Full Scale" Wave Motion gun is able to wipe out several unshielded full scale war ships (based on ships with a size and armor comparable to that of the Mobilian ships). The blast of a "Minor" Wave Motion gun is considerably less, though it can severely damage most ships and a direct hit would be a hard blow even to a shielded ship. The "Minor" Wave Motion gun would probably be comparable to the main guns of one of the larger capital ships used by one of the major galactic races. The down side to the Wave Motion gun is the amount of energy it uses and the strain it puts on the resources of the ship using it. In order to fire a "Full Scale" Wave Motion gun the ship must concentrate all of its energy into the Wave Motion gun thereby preventing the use of other weapons or engines for a period both before and after firing. The "Minor" Wave Motion gun is less taxing on the resources of the ship but still does require a momentary drain on the power of the ship and a long recharge time between shots. Because of the drain on system resources the Wave Motion guns are only used in situation where return fire is not anticipated or in great need. Instead the Mobilians usually rely more on their blaster cannons, lasers, torpedoes and fighters for ship to ship combat.
For example, if used against an SSD a direct hit from a "Full Scale" or main Wave Motion gun would severely damage the ship, however the firing ship would be an open target while charging the gun and could easily be wiped out by said SSD if it tried. Against the same SSD a "Minor" Wave Motion gun would do significant damage but would not be able to disable it. Against an ISD a "Full Scale" Wave Motion gun would be able to wipe out the ship, while a direct hit from a "Minor" Wave Motion gun would most likely cripple an ISD. Against a Vulcan Battlecruiser a "Full Scale" Wave Motion gun with a direct hit would be able to completely disable if not destroy it, while a "Minor" Wave Motion gun would most likely bring the ships shields down to a critical point. Again, keep in mind the risk involved in using the Wave Motion guns due to the drain on ship's resources, the Wave Motion gun is a very powerful gun but it is also a risky one to use and the Mobilians are not the type to overly risk their lives without a very good reason, such as the survival of their home world or to save the live of a very close friend.

Q. Details on the extent of interstellar colonization.
A. As of the year 1205 MC (Mobilian Calendar), when the MSC Experimentum began its voyage of exploration (3 years ago) the Mobilians had fully colonized their home system and set up a colony in the nearest of the neighboring systems. In addition they had a space station setup at the halfway point between their home system and the neighboring system with the colony in it and another space station halfway between the neighboring system and the next system further out.
In the three years since the MSC Experimentum left they have most likely setup more out of system colonies. I am not sure how many. Because of limitations in FTL travel they would most likely be limited to systems within a close proximity to their home world. Probably not more than two or three systems distance, except perhaps as a small trading base with a friendly alien race.
During its travels, the MSC Experimentum encountered several sentient races, some of them space worthy, and a few FTL ability. Of these, some of the ones that where not to far distant from Mobilian space have setup trade routes and or made other forms of peaceful contact with the Mobilian Republic after initial contact was made by the MSC Experimentum.
All in all though the Mobilian Republic is limited to a rather small section of space near the edge of the galaxy.
